Electric public transport: towards greener cities

Climate change, air pollution and the need to make our cities more livable are issues that intersect at one point: urban mobility. The transition of public transport from petrol or diesel to electric engines is not only a modern trend, but a strategic choice with many advantages.

  1. Cleaner air in cities

One of the major problems of urban areas is air pollution. Petrol or diesel public vehicles release significant amounts of CO2 and other pollutants. The conversion to electric vehicles translates into a drastic reduction in these emissions, ensuring cleaner air and an improvement in public health.

  1. Reduction of operating costs

Although the initial investment may be greater, in the long term electric means of transport tend to be less expensive in terms of maintenance and power supply.

  1. Comfort and silence

Electric vehicles are much quieter than their combustion counterparts. This means less noise pollution in cities, making the urban environment more pleasant for citizens and offering a quieter and more comfortable journey for passengers.

  1. Technological development and innovation

In addition to electric propulsion, new vehicles can often integrate advanced technologies such as assisted driving systems, advanced connectivity and accessibility solutions. This makes the travel experience more modern and functional for users.

  1. Incentives and environmental benefits

The Italian government is encouraging the transition to electric public transport with the signing, last 6 October, of the decree that defines the criteria and percentages of distribution of the new Sustainable Mobility Fund, established by the Budget Law 2022. These incentives, combined with long-term savings and environmental benefits, make electrification an economically and socially wise choice.
