BMS in lithium batteries

What is a battery charge monitoring system (BMS)?

The BMS is an electronic system that allows you to control the operation of batteries, and everything related to the safety part for the management of voltage and temperature of the cells. Lithium batteries are formed, in fact, by many cells that must be handled accurately because they have high voltage loads that require constant monitoring.

The BMS manages the set of lithium cells by identifying a safe zone, that is a safety area that guarantees an optimal performance of the battery.

The purpose of a BMS is to reveal the state of operation of the battery considering the time of charge and discharge, identifying when you exceed certain limits imposed by the user.

To summarize, the main functions of a battery management system, talking about electric vehicles. They are:

  • Check the range within wich the battery operates, making sure everything happens in a safe area

  • Monitor the "health status" of the battery, keep the sequence of charging and discharging processes; this ensures protection during these phases, disconnecting the battery if abnormal activity is recorded beyond the set limits or if a fault occurs

  • Optimize battery life

At Galvani Power we use an effective and efficient BMS, which guarantees reliability and safety.
